The National Federation of Italian Press (Fnsi) announces on its official website that it has established the national commission for self-employed work, that is, for freelance journalists. This is a kind of recognition, albeit somewhat belated, for those who make a living from independent journalism. Freelance journalists will also be represented at the regional level thanks to local Commissions, represented and chosen directly by their freelance peers. On a national level, the already existing National Assembly of Freelancers has received further recognition and will now have its own branch at the local level as well.Fnsi assures that, in this way, freelancers will find a home within the Federation. It’s a way to provide greater union protections to this increasingly numerous and important sector of Italian journalism. Will it really be so?
