I have carefully read the news about the latest updates regarding the social security coverage for freelance journalists. In truth, these changes only apply to journalists with a Co.Co.Co. contract and not to those who work with a VAT number or via transfer of copyright. Therefore, what follows refers only to the “chosen few” within the freelance journalist category, seeing as many other independents are excluded.
“From today, the self-employed worker is less alone”: with these words Franco Siddi, secretary of the National Federation of the Press, together with Andrea Camporese, president of INPGI (National Social Security Institute for Journalists), greeted the new welfare measures for freelance collaborators during a press conference. The measures received approval yesterday from the Ministries of Labor and Economy with the adoption of the resolution concerning separate management by the same institute.
