Freelance Journalists: Upcoming Guidelines from the National Journalists’ Council Working Group
The Italian National Order of Journalists (ODG) has recently released a report on the state of freelance journalism. During the National Council meetings at the end of March, a detailed document focusing on freelance journalists was presented. This report was prepared by the CNOG working group, specifically tasked with providing an overview of the current landscape for independent journalism professionals.

The document states the following verbatim:
A freelance is defined as a professional journalist who practices the profession exclusively and independently, without any employment relationship. A freelance journalist is also defined as a “publicist journalist” who practices the profession predominantly (meaning more than half of their income comes from this work) without having any kind of subordinate journalistic employment. The freelance journalist is registered with INPGI’s Separate Management and operates in compliance with the constitutional principles of freedom of expression, pluralism, and the legal and deontological rules provided for the journalism profession.
